Owens Corning Fiberglass

Fiberglass Failure #3 - View Photos below

Location: Mississippi River near Bemidji, MN

Date: Dec. 2008

Neither NCI nor Hammerback Remodeling had anything to do with this Project Prior to Dec. 2008.

Problems Noticed: Snow and Frost Melting in Irregular Patterns, Water Condensation, thought it was Leaky Shingles (They'd been replaced 2 yrs before).

Overview: 20 yr old home. Frost and Snow Melting in very cold weather indicatingHeat Loss. Dripping water from ceilings and vault. Two spots where water wasrunning down ext. walls.

What Happened: Fiberglass Insulation slows down Warm Air Movement (Infiltration). It doesn't stop it, so as the warm air came into contact with Plywood Roof Sheathingin the winter (Below 32 Degrees F) Frost and Condensation occur. At some pointit needs to melt. In many roof systems, it has little chance of drying out, creatingperfect conditions for Mold.

Also very inefficient and expensive. Foaming it was the perfect solution forthe problems.

We tore off existing roof plywood, and removed fiberglass and cellulose Insulation.Replaced with 8 inches of Icynene Insulation. Took 1 day to tear off and replace.

Keith called last winter to let us know how impressed he was by the fix andhow much he was saving on energy costs.
